Since 2009, the EVSC has equipped high school students with netbooks and now laptops, to use as learning tools and innovation guides, teaching them the basics of digital responsibility and use of computer programs, but more importantly, how to delve deeply into subject matter. In 2011, netbooks also were distributed to all middle grade students; and in 2014, all 5th grade students will also have netbooks for daily use. Even at the elementary level, classrooms are equipped with a variety of devices for use in the school. Through the Indiana Department of Education, laptop computers are considered as textbooks (a learning tool). The process and protocols that are already in place for textbooks are also utilized for netbooks. This includes bar-coding, inventory, distribution, and repair/replacement. Once the textbooks and netbooks are in the student’s possession, they are responsible for the care of both.
