The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, in accordance with IAC 7-38-3 (Confidentiality safeguards in the collection, maintenance, and destruction of educational records), will be changing its policy of record retention. Beginning in October, 2017, the Office of Special Education will begin to destroy records of former students prior to 2014 who had an Individualized Educational Plan while a student in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.
Thereafter, and in accordance with IAC 7-38-3 (4), the EVSC will store former students’ records for at least three years after the students exit from the special education program. After three years, the records will be destroyed. During their senior year, students, as well as their parents or guardians will be informed of this process.
Any former student, parent, or guardian of former student wishing to obtain records before they are destroyed, must notify the Office of Special Education by September 15, 2017.
