Related Services

The EVSC provides related services to students according to their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) including:

Occupational Therapy:

Occupational therapy practitioners work in school teams to benefit all students to achieve greater success in academic performance and enhance social participation. They can support children in general education, at-risk children, and those identified for special education. Occupational therapy practitioners support educators so that students achieve adequate yearly progress and maintain appropriate school behavior necessary for learning

Physical Therapy

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was enacted “to ensure that all children with disabilities have available to them a free appropriate public education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living.” (IDEA §300.1) Physical therapy, as a related service, is provided “to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education.” (IDEA §300.34)

Physical therapists work collaboratively with a student’s IEP team and participate in screening, evaluation, program planning, and intervention.  As a member of the IEP team, physical therapists design and implement physical therapy interventions—including teaching and training of family and education personnel and measurement and documentation of progress—to help the student achieve his/her IEP goal. They assist students in accessing school environments and benefiting from their educational program

Behavioral Consultation

Behavior Consultation is a “Related Service” that may be considered as an additional support or intervention, as determined by a Case Conference Committee, for a Special Education student who has specific social, emotional or behavior needs that are affecting the student’s academic performance.
