Referrals to Child Protective Services (CPS)

Indiana law mandates that a school staff member reports any suspicion of any act that could be interpreted as child abuse and/or neglect. With that comes immunity from prosecution to encourage reporting. Making a report is not accusatory; it is simply the compliance with a state- mandated reporting, supporting the effort to protect children.

The school’s reporting procedure is:

1.     A preliminary report of alleged (or suspected) child abuse and/or neglect form Is completed and sent to The Office of Student Support Services.

2.     Report is called  to the state’s CPS Hotline at 800-800-5556.

3.     Investigation by CPS determines that the report is substantiated or non-substantiated.

4.     Follow-up investigating is by the Department of Child Services—not by EVSC.
