Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

The EVSC and WNIN have teamed up to provide programming for students. This programing is a combination of lessons taught by EVSC teachers along with PBS videos selected to support learning. These daily lessons will also be shared on EVSC Facebook each day. See the WNIN Lessons link for a programming schedule.

These lessons act as a safety net for families/students who may have limited access to the internet. The lessons are not meant to replace assignments made by classroom teachers who know the student and the progress of the class. Students with internet access will still need to complete the work assigned by the teacher. However, we hope many of you will take advantage of the additional learning opportunities from these lessons for enrichment.

Today, Governor Eric Holcomb announced school buildings will remain closed through the end of the school year. Click here for a podcast featuring EVSC Superintendent David Smith as he discusses virtual days, high school graduation requirements and more.

The EVSC will continue to provide virtual instruction during this time until we reach a total of 160 school days, which is the number of days required this year in response to the COVID-19 virus. We are developing plans for the remaining schedule of virtual instruction and how the new information shared by the governor today will affect all students, especially our high school seniors earning their final credits toward the graduation requirement. Guidance for school districts will be provided by the Indiana Department of Education, Governor’s Office and the State Board of Education. We will communicate further once we have finalized these details.

Due to school closures, 3rd grading period report cards will not be printed and distributed. However, grades for grade level 2-12 are accessible via Parent Access.

If you do not have an access code, please use the EVSC Parent Access Support Page to submit information to request an access code from your student's school that will allow you to create an account to access your student’s information. Grade levels K-1 and Delaware Elementary School will be emailing reports or mailing if email is not available.

IMPORTANT CHANGE to Grab & Go meal program...the USDA has eliminated the requirement for children to be present. We can now issue meals to adults for their child or children without having to bring them to the pick-up site. One meal per child, please. See the School Meals tab for more information on days, times and locations for pick ups.

As a reminder, the EVSC will be utilizing waiver days issued to Indiana school districts by Gov. Eric Holcomb for the next two weeks. During this time teachers will be planning and preparing for the continuation of virtual instruction next month. Students will not be assigned virtual assignments during this time period. We will continue to monitor the changing conditions resulting from the Covid-19 virus and will follow all guidance from the governor and the Indiana Department of Education.

Today, Governor Eric Holcomb delivered a statewide address to order that Hoosiers remain in their homes except when they are at work or for permitted activities, such as taking care of others, obtaining necessary supplies, and for health and safety. Click here for more information and a list of FAQs related to the order.

UPDATED MARCH 19, 12:30 P.M.

Following the announcement of Governor Eric Holcomb at a press conference today, all Indiana schools, INCLUDING THE EVSC, will be closed until at least May 1st. More information to come regarding our schedule for using waiver days and virtual learning.

Governor Holcomb also announced the cancellation of standardized testing. Click here for more information from the Indiana Department of Education regarding these cancellations.

UPDATED MARCH 19, 2020 10 a.m.
EVSC new student enrollment, including kindergarten enrollment is currently delayed. We will open enrollment once schools reopen. We look forward to meeting all our new students and families!

At a press conference this afternoon, education leaders from our community came together to share plans regarding the response to the Coronavirus in the coming weeks. The EVSC announced that we will utilize the governor’s waiver to extend the closing of all schools for the 2 weeks following spring break through Friday, April 10th. We will continue to stay in close contact with government and health officials and follow guidance from the CDC to determine if it is necessary to prolong this school facility closure beyond this date.

All extracurricular events and practices will continue to be cancelled until school facilities are reopened. “Grab & go” lunches will continue weekdays between March 30 and April 10th. For the two week period following spring break we will utilize state approved waiver days, so no virtual assignments will be required during this period of time. At this point, we anticipate using virtual learning should we need to extend the closure beyond April 10th.

For ongoing updates, please continue to follow the EVSC on social media and refer to our website at We appreciate the support and patience of our entire community as we make decisions in the best interest of public health for Vanderburgh County.

UPDATED March 12, 2020

At a press conference this afternoon the health officer for Vanderburgh County, Dr. Ken Spear, recommended the closing of schools next week, March 16 through March 20. Local government officials were in full agreement of this recommendation. As a result, the EVSC will be closing all school facilities beginning tomorrow evening, March 13 at 5:00 p.m. At this time we are planning for the facility closure to continue through Sunday, March 29, with plans to reopen on Monday, March 30, following spring break. However, we will continue to stay in close contact with government and health officials to determine if it is necessary to prolong this school facility closure.

Beginning tomorrow at 5:00 p.m., all extracurricular events and practices are cancelled until school facilities are reopened. Events scheduled tonight will continue unless they have been cancelled by the individual school. Information will be sent tomorrow regarding locations and times for students to pick up “grab & go” lunch during the closure. Parents will be notified with information on picking up medication for students. Communication for all EVSC employees will be sent tomorrow regarding work information. Specific information will be sent to families regarding virtual learning expectations for students during this closure. For families without internet access, we continue to work with community partners on alternative options. We appreciate the support and patience of our entire community as we make decisions in the best interest of public health for Vanderburgh County.
