Dear Prospective Student and Family,
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a prestigious program that prepares students for four-year college eligibility. AVID assists students, throughout their four years of high school, in developing the skills necessary to be successful in advancing academically with the ultimate goal of attending college.
The core component of AVID is the AVID elective course, which supports students as they challenge themselves in more rigorous classes. AVID teaches students who have already demonstrated the potential for success and the skills necessary to excel in high school and beyond. The AVID curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, real-world learning opportunities, as well as college and career exploration and motivational, team-building activities. AVID students are taught study skills, note-taking, time management, writing skills, and research skills, all while being immersed in a college-going culture. The class also includes tutoring sessions, in which peers assist one another to further develop their understanding of content. Additionally, the AVID elective class provides access to information about colleges and universities through field trips, guest speakers, and college admission requirement information.
AVID seeks students who are motivated to do well and who are serious about their academic future. Avid students have the following characteristics:

- Historically underserved in four-year colleges and universities
