cause for applauseCentral High School Cafeteria Manager Cindy Crabtree is the September recipient of the EVSC’s Cause for Applause award. The award seeks to recognize individuals who go above and beyond their normal job responsibilities.

Crabtree was nominated by numerous coworkers who all list examples of the great things Crabtree does every day for students. In just the past couple of years, Crabtree has seen the development of Central Wee Care, an early childhood learning program for children of EVSC employees, as well as RAMP. Both these initiatives have added to her responsibilities, but according to her nominators, Crabtree always has a big smile and goes the extra mile.

“With the addition of Wee Care, Cindy has welcomed the children and staff with open arms and has become a familiar, inviting face to Wee Care families,” wrote one of her nominators. “Cindy doesn’t just drop off the food and leave. She has formed relationships with these children and they really look forward to seeing her …. She knows their names, gets down on their level to talk with them, hugs them and even lets them help her push her cart. I can’t imagine life at Central Wee Care without her.”

Most recently, Crabtree has transitioned to working year-round with the addition of RAMP, an on-site program for high school students at AmeriQual. “Meals must be transported to the RAMP facility each day and Cindy chose to take on this responsibility to ensure students receive high-quality, nutritious meals,” wrote another nominator. “We couldn’t be more appreciative of her service and the positive impact that she has made on the lives of students.”

Crabtree has worked for the EVSC for 35 years.

Anyone can nominate an employee of the EVSC for the award. Deadline for nominations is the third Friday of each month. To nominate an EVSC employee, go to and click on About Us and see Cause for Applause under Community. Paper forms are available at the schools for those without access to the Internet.
