For the 2023-24 school year, no new updates to the required vaccinations for school have been added. As a reminder: 2 doses of Hepatitis A vaccine is a requirement for all grade levels, PK through 12th grade; and, a booster dose of Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine is required for 12th graders unless their 1st dose was given on or after the 16th birthday. Vaccination against HPV and Meningococcal B are both recommended (NOT REQUIRED) for students in 12th grade. See the information on Meningococcal Disease below and the list of required immunizations for all grade levels by clicking on the "Immunization Requirements" link on this page.

The State of Indiana requires that information regarding Meningococcal Disease and Vaccine be made available for parents of Indiana school-aged children at the beginning of each school year: CLICK HERE to link to this information.

Information on other teen vaccines, including HPV and Tdap, (6 - 12th grades), is provided at the following link: TEEN VACCINES

Indiana began experiencing a Hepatitis A outbreak in November 2017 that resulted in hospitalizations and deaths. In July 2019 a school vaccine requirements advisory group that included the Indiana Department of Health-Immunization Division, Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Association of School Nurses, the Indiana Immunization Coalition, and the Indiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics unanimously agreed to require two valid doses of hepatitis A vaccine for all grades, including schools with pre-kindergarten programs, beginning in the fall of the 2020-2021 school year.

The hepatitis A vaccine is a two-dose series that is routinely recommended beginning at 12 months of age. This two-dose series requires at least six months between doses. This vaccine series is safe and effective at preventing hepatitis A, a highly contagious viral liver infection.
