504 Plans

Vision Statement: Every student, including those with disabilities, is held to high expectations and has equitable access to educational opportunities that enrich lives and prepare students for future success.


Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is federal legislation and regulations that protect people with a disability against discrimination. Section 504 defines a disability as anyone who: (1) has a mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities (including but not limited to: caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, seeing, hearing, eating, sleeping, walking, standing, bending, speaking, breathing, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, communication, etc.), (2) has a record of such impairment; or (3) is regarded as having such an impairment.

Students who meet these criteria may benefit from a 504 plan. The 504 plan is created by the 504 team and documents accommodations that the student needs.
