ESSER Reimbursement Areas

The areas detailed below represent what IDOE has approved for reimbursement to EVSC to date as part of EVSC’s ESSER III ARP Plan. This list will continue to be updated upon future iterations of the grant approval process.

Included in EVSC’s ESSER III ARP Plan:

  • Summer school expenses to support learning loss (teachers, paraprofessionals, nurses, custodial, administrators, site coordinators, transportation, crossing guards, supplemental afternoon programming, summer school materials and supplies) (Summer 2022, 2023, 2024)
  • Increased capacity for counseling and social work services to support mental wellness and other full-service school wrap-around services and supports
  • Increased capacity to provide interventions to accelerate achievement and address achievement gaps.
    - Multi-tiered systems of support for systemic, continuous improvement framework in which data-based problem-solving and decision making is practiced across all levels to support the individualized needs of students across 3 tiers
    - ELL Teachers to support the academic needs and address the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on underrepresented student subgroups
    - IXL online supplemental curriculum access for personalized learning opportunities for students for intervention, remediation, and enrichment for core content in reading, mathematics, science and social studies
    - Additional intervention options to address learning loss
    - Digital content to support High School students in successful completion of Next Level CTE Pathway Courses
    - Research best practices and curriculum for mathematics K-12
    - Support for students in developing executive functioning skills leading to increased attention and focus
    - Additional staff and training for 20 teachers certified in Science of Reading to support interventions for most in need students
    - Additional staff, training and curriculum to support elementary students identified as high ability students
    - Additional paraprofessional capacity to support instructional and small group interventions

  • Evidence-based curriculum and interventions to support students in the development of self regulation and executive functioning skills and embedded school support
  • Curriculum enhancements including hands on mathematics manipulatives, science kits, and additional reading materials
  • Curriculum for Early Learning program
  • Improved family communication tool leading to reduction in student absence
  • Additional support for directing: the work of addressing achievement gaps (particularly for underserved groups), engaging families (including ESL families), addressing mental health systems of support, programs to expand CTE and workforce readiness options, and new programs including the new student information system implementation.
  • HS AVID teachers to focus on closing the opportunity gap in college graduation rates among diverse and underrepresented demographic groups (AVID will give teachers a solution for systematically increasing academic rigor/creating engaging learning environments and accelerating performance of underrepresented students.)
  • Increased capacity to provide nursing services
  • Stipend to incentivize student teacher and mentor teachers
  • Incentives to retain high quality teachers and staff to recruit and retain at schools
  • Ventilation upgrades to improve indoor air quality
  • Additional classroom furniture to allow for social distancing for minimizing transmission
  • Long term substitutes to support more continuity of instruction for students during a time when teacher absenteeism is heightened due to atypical quarantine and isolation requirements
  • Continuous improvement planning, including needs and inequities assessment
  • Increased capacity to support implementation of Continuous Improvement Plan
  • Grant administrative costs/indirect costs to carry out ESSER III activities and ensure continuity of services to schools
  • Professional Development and teacher certification programs aligned to improvement strategies to address student opportunity and achievement gaps, including those most impacted by COVID-19
  • Added capacity to provide oversight and support to the EVSC Virtual Academy Program due to increased enrollment
  • Additional capacity for reducing class size per needs identified by school administrators
  • TalkSpace subscription to support staff
  • New comprehensive data and student information system to address need to make informed decisions based on data
  • COVID-related healthcare expenses
